Start by identifying the affected component. A frozen view, a stopped session, and a missing command need different fixes.
The pmux command is not found
On macOS, Prismattyc links its bundled command into /usr/local/bin when possible, otherwise ~/.local/bin. Add the selected directory to PATH in your shell configuration and open a new shell. The app does not edit shell profiles for you.
On Windows, open a new Command Prompt or PowerShell window after the MSI changes your user PATH. Portable installations do not provide the same MSI setup. On Linux, ensure ~/.local/bin is on PATH.
pmux --version
pmux versions
If these report unexpected versions, check which installation your shell is finding before reinstalling.
A pane appears frozen
From another terminal, inspect the server and the affected session:
pmux status
pmux ls
pmux doctor work
Replace work with the actual session name. For a terminal attach, try the detach prefix Ctrl + \, then D, and reconnect with pmux attach work.
If the attach client is stuck, pmux kick work targets attach clients rather than the pane's program. Inspect pmux doctor work again before escalating. The recovery guide explains the escalation order.
pmux stop ends the server and every managed session. It does not merely close a frozen view.Does a saved Space preserve running programs?
A managed session can survive a detached client while pmuxd remains alive. A saved Space stores the workspace definition, not a process checkpoint. It cannot preserve running programs across a computer restart.
Optional blank-terminal restoration starts fresh shells in saved directories. It does not restore an old shell's environment or scrollback.
Why is a running version older after an update?
The new files can be installed while an older host or daemon is still running. Safe restart can defer when local terminals or managed sessions remain active. Inspect pmux versions and pmux restart --plan, then follow the reported next step. See safe restart.
Where are my settings?
The desktop configuration is ~/.config/prismattyc/config.toml, unless PRISMATTYC_CONFIG overrides it. Most changes apply live. Read the configuration reference before copying settings from another release.
