Classic terminal. Modern surface.

A terminal multiplexer with a long memory. One daemon owns the PTYs; sessions outlive every viewer. Agent mail rides the same wire as your keystrokes.

Pane children keep running when a viewer leaves. Detach is safe; reattach picks up the live screen, scrollback and all.

Sessions are mailboxes. send → claim → commit. The doorbell rings the recipient's pane until the letter is claimed.

NAME pmux — mux front door. Talks to pmuxd over a Unix socket. A pane child belongs to its pane id for life. Sessions die with the daemon; detaching a viewer kills nothing.
